How One Photo Session Strengthened Self-Love & Connection
I had the privilege of photographing Shir and her sweet dog, Chance last fall. Their session was so much more than just photos—it was a reminder of what really matters. On top of that, Shir & Chance are so sweet individually and even more together.
After receiving her artwork, Shir shared what the session meant to her, and it honestly brought me to tears. It’s what I hope for with every session & before I say more, I want you to be able to hear her perspective in her own words.
”I think one of the most challenging things about life is learning how to love and accept yourself exactly how you are. And this lesson has been and will always be a journey for me. I grew up learning that physical looks matter, , and mine have changed drastically depending on what life looked like throughout the years. So what does this post have to do with a dog training IG account?
Everything.
This fall I met @kimberlykingenphotography and she put into action what I often take a “do as I say not as I do “ approach on. Kimberly captured what actually does matter in these gorgeous photographs that I will cherish forever:
You see, what I should have learned growing up is - your physical appearance is the least interesting thing about you. What’s most interesting about you is your passion and love for others , and dare I say - your love for yourself.
This is what Kimberly brought out in Chance and I in her beautiful work. And this is what Chance brought out of me. When I look at these photographs, I don’t see a large version of Shir. Instead I see the immense bond between Chance and I. The love we share. That he is my whole world and I am his.
And our photo shoot with Kimberly taught me to be present with Chance. To not think about what others will see. To enjoy the process of being together just him and I.
And guess what? Since the photo shoot Chance and I did indeed grow closer. He is sleeping in bed with me again. We cuddle more than before. And our time we spend together- well… I am much more present.
So, thank you Kimberly for bringing this lesson to light for me and Chance. And for all the dog moms and dads out there - love each other, love yourselves, be present, and accept yourself the way you are today.
Because life is short.”
Connection & Presence Matter Most
Creating a safe space where you & your pup feel comfortable is always my goal.
Whether it’s through a silly pup that makes you laugh, a quiet moment & snuggles, or an adventure together, these connections shape who we are. They remind us of what truly matters: the bonds we build, the love we share, and the memories we create. That is what I want to photograph.
For me, being behind the camera is about so much more than taking photos—it’s about preserving those connections, capturing the emotions that tell your story, and creating something you’ll treasure for years to come.
If you’ve been thinking about documenting the bond you share with someone special—whether they walk on two, three, or four legs—consider this your sign. These moments deserve to be celebrated, remembered, and cherished.
